What to do, what to do...

Hey everyone! Welcome to my RCL Blog!

Now just if I could figure out what to write about.

When I was asked to find a topic for my Passion Blog, I was initially stumped. I had to think long and hard about what topic I could sustain for ten weeks. Nothing jumped out at me that was particularly blog worthy, until I once again had to take two more tums for an upset stomach.

Now, I know that sounds odd, so I’ll provide a little background. My mother is a fantastic cook. She also is very much into the organic lifestyle, having managed two CSAs within the last ten years. I was extremely lucky that I had someone who would make delicious, healthy food for me on a regular bases (side note: my friends even call her Saint Carla because of her kitchen expertise). At home, I also worked in a farm-to-table restaurant called Emma’s Food for Life, where Emma (the owner) raises animals at her own farm, butchers them herself, and then uses the meat in her DELICIOUS handmade cuisine. Needless to say, switching to dining hall food has been an extreme change in my diet, making the tums necessary.

So how does this relate to my blog you ask? I’ve decided that my Passion Blog is going to be a guide on making the most out of what’s given to me. I’ll be posting about different restaurants, healthy snack tips, dining hall options, and anything else relevant that just might help you beat the dreaded Freshman Fifteen!

It’s unrealistic of me to think that I’ll be eating like I did at home, but hopefully I’ll be able to maintain a healthy eating lifestyle, while enlightening some people along the way!

  1. I love this idea! I think we can all relate to a lack of healthy choices. I would suggest when talking about healthy snack tips to look at some options that can be prepared in our dorm rooms. Also as a side note, whenever you talk about techniques or different cooking styles you used at home be sure to explain them. When I read CSAs I wasn't sure what they are and still am not positive. Keep in mind that what terms you know others may not. I look forward to reading this blog.

  2. I think this could be a vary interesting topic. This will take some thorough investigation of State College and the College campus, but since this is just what you would normally do, this blog should go well with your lifestyle. I hopefully will be able to take some good idea from this blog to incorporate into my college dinning routine.

  3. I need this blog. I can definitely relate to wanting to eat healthy in the dining hall but wanting to keep my meals interesting, which is difficult when you have limited options. I would love to hear about good restaurants downtown and possibly things on campus that I have been missing. I also really like the idea of writing about preparing healthy snacks in your room because sometimes you just don't feel like getting up to get something to eat. This could be a great resource for college kids, especially freshmen, still trying to adapt to the dining halls.

  5. I love your blog idea! There are so many different things that you could write about, and your posts can definitely help out any college student. I would love to read about your ideas on how to stay healthy with the dining hall food. It'd also be great to read reviews on different restaurants off campus so I don't end up going to a restaurant I don't like!

  6. Food! Yes! Alright this sounds almost too good to be true. I'll say, to have incoming food tips whether where the best restaurants are to what to not eat because it'll take a dark turn, sounds great. Being an athlete I'll be paying attention. I rarely watch what I eat, which is probably bad... no definitely not great, so this sounds like an absolute blessing! I'll just say thank you in advance now, Thank you!

  8. Since we've already spoken about this idea, just let me say this: I'm glad to hear that this concept has blossomed and will work for you. I'm looking forward to reading along, Julia.
